Yes, it does look a little too heavy on the sidebar. But tell me, do you normally go through the sidebar of the blogs you visit? Perhaps the first time you visit, you want to know what the blogger wishes to reveal of herself. Even then, would you look for comments and stuff? On the sidebar?
If you do keep the comments, do please choose some darker colours for the text; the current choice is a little hard on the eyes (particularly of those of us in our forties!)
I agree with Abi on the darker colors. And maybe you could not italicize the text and make the font smaller? That way it would look more compact, I think.
The color... I went through just about every color in the toolbox trying to find one that was dark enough to read but didn't pull focus from the actual posts on my blog. Clearly didn't solve that one. ^__^

In fact, I don't usually land directly on the blogs anymore since I read everything through Google. ^__^ And if a post doesn't draw my curiosity the first time, I never go into the comments to see what people are saying about it... but if the post does intrigue me, I always do.
